Howdy everypony!

At our last crew meeting we went over our Twilight puppet and we realized that it still needs the back 3 quarters!  It isn’t priority right now, but a version 2 will be available in the future.  We really appreciate all the excellent feedback we have been getting and Zach’s amazed no one's discovered any problems.

We also have an awesome new background lead who did the staging study of Twilight’s bedroom (which will be released in a couple weeks).  She also stepped up to help us block out all the backgrounds in the bedroom because the camera angles were confusing us.  Great job and congratulations Jourdan!

At the meeting, we also saw some fantastic Ponyville backgrounds.  Prepare to be amazed!

Anonymous asked: Wondering what the 3D concept art shots done with Maya are for, since i was under the impression you guys were using flash? Unles you are using maya, in which case you are my hero.

The 3D concept art in Maya was used for staging and getting a feel for the space we will be animating in.  Double Rainboom will be done completely in Flash.

nontagonistic asked: It was mentioned that this is a senior project. When is it due? By which I mean, what is the absolute latest we can expect it to be finished?

Zach is technically a senior so Double Rainboom is also technically a senior project but it doesn’t quite fit into the curriculum at SCAD so there is no “deadline”.  We expect to finish the episode for release this fall.

Anonymous asked: Besides Twilight and Rainbow, will any of the other Mane Cast be featured in the animation?

Yes!  Pinkie Pie will also be featured with a speaking part.  You can also expect cameo appearances by Applejack, Rarity, Fluttershy, Spike, Derpy, Doc Whooves, Cheerilee, Rose, Lilly, the CMC, and others!

“The Double Rainboom summer animation project has launched a website with all sorts of neat little additions to the already huge amount of content and teasers that have come out dedicated to it. This might just be one of the best things the fandom creates! Hopefully they can pull it off!” — http://www.equestriadaily.com/2012/05/double-rainboom-site-launches-lots-of.html#idc-cover

The Double Rainboom Website

Our website is officially up!  Now you can see all the work we have been doing for Double Rainboom in the past few weeks.  In the gallery section of the site there are six buttons: concept art, storyboards, animatics, backgrounds, puppets, and extras.

In the concept art area you can find color studies and staging studies of Twilight Sparkle’s laboratory.  Part 1’s storyboards and animatics are in their respective sections as well as 5 of part 1’s backgrounds.  Our first version of our Twilight Sparkle puppet is now download-able in the puppets section and our first promotional poster is in the extras section in case you want one for yourself (I know I do!).

In the next few days we will be releasing more backgrounds, a staging study of Twilight Sparkle’s bedroom, updated versions of our Twilight Sparkle puppet, and a new promotional poster!

darkeonwarlord asked: About how long is this animation going to be?

Right now Double Rainboom is estimated to be about 14 minutes long, but we still haven’t completed 3 out of 6 of our animatics so that number will likely change.  Originally Zach had planned Double Rainboom to be the full length of an episode, but unlike the live-action rule that one page of script = one minute, animation comes out to be closer to 30 seconds per page.

We’re Whippin’ Out Backgrounds

At this week’s background meeting, Jourdan finished an amazing staging study of Twilight Sparkle’s bedroom!  Did you know that there is a second set of stairs and a secret door in her room?  I wonder where the secret door goes…
