You’re right! We changed to EDT not too long ago. Sorry about the mix up. The premiere will be at 9 PM EDT. Good thing the mix up just means you might be an hour early ^^
Get ready! Double Rainboom will be premiering tonight at 9:00 PM EST at http://everfree.net/! Stay tooned after the premiere for a question and answer session with Zachary Rich, the episode’s writer and director, and the rest of the crew.
You make a strong argument.
Howdy everypony!
During our crew meeting today, we watched the first half of our film in its final timing! We’re only missing character animation in one shot. There are a few other tiny things to fix up, but it’s been sent off to sound!
Today we also completed every single one of our 116 backgrounds! Phew, that’s a lot of backgrounds.
We are 97% done with all character animation and 81% done with all the special effects.
Get ready! Our trailer, along with our official release date, will be out soon. We’ll be releasing the first half of the film on Saturday, the 9th of March at 4pm at Momocon in Atlanta, Georgia.

We have officially finalized all our aniamtics! Sounds a bit delayed right? Well don’t you fret because we only have 11 shots left to hand out! We are 78% done with all character animation, 44% done with special effects, and 69% done with backgrounds! We start on postproduction tomorrow and hope to be done in February, but there is no set-in-stone release date.

We’re estimating that Double Rainboom will be about an entire episode long when it’s complete (the episode won’t have intro titles though). It will likely be slightly longer than 22 minutes by the time it’s done.
We have shots in Double Rainboom with the back and back 3 quarter views of the ponies, but we didn’t make formal puppets for them. We handed out those shots with the back and back 3 quarter views to more experienced animators who could manipulate the puppet parts we already had and draw in new ones where needed.
Yes! We’re working on their shots right now!
Kind of. If all the different legs are going to be used in a shot then they are taken off ‘guide’ and are given keyframes where they need to appear. They generally stay on their original layers. I hope that helps!
Howdy everypony!
At our last crew meeting we went over the promos that will be released in the coming weeks leading into post-production. We will be releasing a tutorial on how to animate our pony puppets, Zach will be narrating a Double Rainboom update promo to let everyone know how the project is going, and we will be releasing a trailer. It will take about two or three weeks before the next promo will be released though.
We also met our shot quota this week! (Despite finals at SCAD) Which means we are on track for finishing Double Rainboom!

Yup! We still plan on making a Rarity puppet but because of the complexity of her hair we haven’t started her yet.
Yup! We’re working on a puppet for spike.
Yes, we plan on making a tutorial on how to animate the pony puppets we are using for Double Rainboom, but it will probably be a few weeks before Zach Rich (the director of Double Rainboom) is able to find the time to do it.
We won’t be making a puppet of Princess Cadence because she doesn’t appear in the film (Double Rainboom was written before she was introduced to My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic).
Yes, Pinkie Pie has a speaking role in Double Rainboom.
You must all be wondering what we’ve been up to. Well, we’ve been animating lots and lots of ponies and we’re closing in on our backgrounds, but we are only about halfway done with the episode, so we have to extend our release date to winter 2013. We haven’t been sending you guys too much artwork and information lately, but we’re working on several promo videos. We just finished our trailer music and it’s fantastic! It gets stuck in my head all day whenever we play it in our meetings.
I just wanted to let everyone know that everything is going well! We’re learning, and we’ve been figuring out new ways to approach the things that set us back. This last week Zach has been really sick, so we’re working out a system to keep things running when he falls off the radar. I would also like to announce:
We Will Be Attending Momocon!
Momocon is held in Atlanta every March and we will be there to show you everything and anything related to Double Rainboom -the first full length, fan-made MLP:FiM episode!

As always, stay tuned!

We have one completed actually, but it hasn’t been released yet so stay tuned!
The Savannah College of Art and Design held an event called Senior Soiree recently where all the seniors promote their films and recruit crew members. Zach Rich, our director, was there and everything went fantastically! We had a great big TV playing some of our finished shots, around the TV we had a print-out of the crew list from the website, and fliers and business cards were given out. There were always people at the table asking questions and talking about the film, and hopefully we’ll see a number of them submitting puppet tests and grabbing shots to help us out.
Howdy everypony!
We updated our website today with 5 new backgrounds, mini puppets, and other artwork! Check it out!
Howdy everypony!
It’s crunch time here! The crew is working really hard to get all of our shots done in the next seven weeks so we’ve been spending most of our meeting time critiquing shots. We did get to hear an epic pass at our trailer music though!
Our next website update is scheduled for tomorrow! We will have BBBFF mini puppets for each of the main six (rigged by me! :D) and some other treats for you guys. The sequence using the mini puppets is awesome - and it’s almost done!

For our last crew meeting Zach prepared a spiffy new powerpoint for his presentation to new members. We also found out exactly where we are in production and how far we have left to go with precise percentages. Then, of course, we went over the usual. We saw aniamtics, puppet tests and aniamted shots.
At our last online crew meeting we saw all the animatics, listened to Rainbow Dash callbacks, and went over recorded dialogue. All of the dialogue for the monster has been finalized and the puppet is completely done (and done really well!). We then went through puppet tests, Equestria Daily banners, backgrounds, and animation.
Our 3rd promo will be out as soon as the sound is added!

Unfortunately, we aren’t able to save files down further than CS4. Zach has CS5, but we’re working between CS5, 5.5. and 6 so saving to CS4 is the best we can do.
At the crew meeting today we critique all the work being done, discussed the next promo that will be coming out soon, and saw banner ideas for Equestria Daily. We’re nearly done with our backgrounds, believe it or not, which is why there isn’t much artwork to post out here for you guys. We have 20 shots left that are ready for character animation until we get all of our dialogue in and all puppet building is complete. So things are going well!

We will be referring all of our animators to projects like yours once Double Rainboom is released!
Zach Rich, our director and producer, was on the Brony Show (another one!) this week!
Howdy everypony!
Recently there has been some confusion as to whether we will be at Everfree Northwest this weekend. Unfortunately, we are poor art students and can not legally accept donations. So, we won’t be seeing you guys at Everfree Northwest this year but we hope everypony has a great time!
Double Rainboom will be (unofficially) PG rated so that everyone can watch it!
Along with our new promo, we made a banner to go up on Equestria Daily! You can see it on their website here: http://www.equestriadaily.com/ or on our website here: http://doublerainboom.com/art/extr.html. There’s also a brand new Pinkie Pie poster and background of Applejack’s apple stand and they look AWESOME (can you tell I’ve been listening to too many Rainbow Dash tryouts?).
